The Northland Regional Ambulance District is reaching out to its taxpayers and asking for General Obligation Bond to fund three separate projects over the next several years.  The District, looking to keep up with and remain responsive to growth within its District is looking to add two stations and remodel another to provide better services to the population it serves.

The Northland Regional District was formed in 1994 helping to fill a void within the Northland of ambulance service.  After the closure of the Smithville Community Ambulance based at the St. Lukes Smithville Hospital, the District was formed with the approval of both the Clay and Platte County Board of Commissioners under Ambulance District statutes set by the State of Missouri.  The District started with one ambulance covering its nearly 350 sq. miles.  It has expanded, keeping up with area growth, over the last 30 years to four ambulances and advanced life support Battalion Chief covering the District daily.  The District currently runs out of three stations: Platte City (current headquarters and education center), Smithville (two ambulance coverage out of one station near the heart of the city), Camden Point (a station that we currently share with the area Fire District).

The District has not had to rely on a Bond for buildings and/or additions in its history.  However, with the rapidly inflating costs associated with construction, economic changes, and the continued growth of the District, the Board of Directors made the decision to reach out to taxpayers to help with the continued growth and the District’s response with the use of General Obligation Bonds.

The District looks to the Bond to help with the addition of a second satellite station in Smithville.  This location at Tradewinds Drive and Eagle Parkway would put an ambulance nine minutes North of its current station and helps with the increasing calls and population growth.  This station would sit just North of Eagle Heights Elementary.  The next project would be the construction of a new headquarters at Hwy B and 92 Hwy, in the Hoover area.  This station would increase the size of needed office and storage as well as improve our education area.  The new Headquarters would place it in the center of our District and allow for easier access for all taxpayers.  The final project would be a remodel of the current Platte City headquarters.  This station would be fitted to house two ambulances and crews full-time to prepare for future growth and call volume.

The goal of these projects is to take the District into the next 30 years preparing for growth, changing demographics, and preparing for future opportunities in the realm of community health improvement.  These needs include not only 911 services, but community outreach and educational opportunities, and the ability to adapt to changing community health initiatives as they arrive.
